How to teach loose-leash walking (no pulling)
Treat the walk like a game: go when the leash is loose, pause when they pull.
- 1
Walk only when it’s slack. Leash in a soft U → keep going. Tight → plant yourself like a tree.
- 2
Resume when it loosens. When they look back or return and the leash gives, “yes!” and keep going. That pays for slack.
- 3
Short sessions. 5–10 minutes of practice are worth more than 40 minutes of constant struggle.
